Course Description

Course Duration:    2.0 hours of screen time

Inclusions:            No inclusions

Platform:              PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad or any Android phone/tablet

Note:                   This course relates to the 2011 edition of AS/NZS 1170.2.  It is yet to be updated for the 2021 version.

This course is aimed at junior design engineers or engineers with a zero knowledge of (or only limited exposure to) the design of buildings and structures subject to wind actions.  The purpose of the 2.0 hour online (e-learning) training course is to:

  • Provide guidance on how to design buildings and structures in accordance with AS/NZS 1170.2 (2011 edition)
  • Provide key historical wind loading details as well as key first principle fundamentals of wind loading theory
  • Highlight design tips and traps for inexperienced designers
  • Illustrate how AS/NZS 1170.2 can be used for wind loading design through the use of video tutorials which demonstrate example design problems
  • Provide specific instruction on key interpretations of the standard.

Note:  This is a "fundamentals" level course where basic and intermediate level design concepts are presented.  We therefore only provided limited information relating to the definition and calculation of the "dynamic response factor" and only example problems featuring buildings and structures which are not dynamically wind sensitive are presented.

This course consists of twelve modules.  The format of the modules is a mix of narrated slides, wind tunnel simulations, video, worked example video tutorials and a quiz.  Each module is designed to be completed in "small chunks" of up to 15 minutes duration.  You can stop at any time and our learning management system (hosted by Spayee (by Ongraphy)) will return you to the exact point in the course where you last finished when you login next time around.
